PATIENT & FAMILY SUPPORT

Alternative Living

As people grow older and receive the diagnosis of a serious illness, they may need to depend on the help of others outside of the home. This help could be temporary or more permanent. Sometimes family members are unable or unavailable to help. This is a time to consider alternative living arrangements such as a nursing home. We have professionals on staff to assist you in making these decisions. Please let us know if you are considering placement outside of your home. We will be happy to assist you as you consider and make these decisions. If you need assistance in locating a facility, please feel free to contact our office and we will be glad to guide you in the right direction.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Complementary and Alternative medicine refers to therapies and healing systems that are currently not a part of the dominant biomedical system.

Integrative medicine encompasses a wide variety of conventional and complementary therapies and recognizes the importance of physical, emotional and spiritual factors in health and disease. Statistics show that approximately 70% of patients with cancer are using some form of alternative medicine. The holistic approach to care is becoming a popular way for treating patients. These therapies are many and may consist of acupuncture, dietary and herbal remedies, massage therapy, relaxation and visualization and aroma therapy. Please feel free to discuss alternative medicine with your physician and our staff. Using the correct therapy to complement your traditional treatment is important. We look forward to discussing these forms of treatment with you.

Complementary Therapy

We offer a complete therapy program to help reduce the pain and anxiety that can be associated with cancer and treatment. Because we believe that providing a holistic approach to your care is important, this therapy is especially designed to complement your other treatments. A therapist trained in techniques such as energetic healing, aroma therapy and body work/massage is available to you. Please ask one of our staff members for more information.

Please call your physician or our Oncology Department with your comments or questions.
